HIE subsidiaries

As a public body, Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) operates subsidiary organisations to help deliver specific parts of our remit more effectively. Our subsidiaries enable us to focus specialist expertise and investment in areas of strategic importance. By operating through subsidiaries, we can respond more flexibly to sector needs, drive innovation, and support long-term regional development while ensuring public value and accountability.

Our partnerships

Partnerships are central to how we achieves results. We collaborate with organisations in many ways, from joint ventures that deliver physical projects, such as the Orkney Research and Innovation Campus, to strategic collaborations that align regional priorities, like the Highlands and Islands Regional Economic Partnership.

Some partnerships involve co‑investment in infrastructure or business growth, while others focus on sharing expertise to strengthen our economy and communities. Our work, for example, with Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) supports innovation in agriculture, aquaculture and life sciences through initiatives like the Rural and Veterinary Innovation Centre (RAVIC). This helps businesses across the region access research, specialist knowledge and new technologies to drive sustainable growth.
